I was playing through a RL1+0 hitless challenge run and found that this boss isn't very difficult to master. I figured it would be a good idea to share the strategy to defeat them since they drop some pretty good rewards that would be useful for any challenge runner or regular player alike! The first half of the video is how to "legitimately" but still easily fight the boss with a melee weapon. The second half of the video includes a showcase on how to really tip the scales in your favor to beat any of the Avatars very easily even if you don't know any of their attack patterns, this is what you would do if you just want to not learn anything and end up with the rewards anyway. Even as a level 1 character with no weapon upgrades, both of these strategies are relatively easy.
I believe the 5 fights that I showcase in this video have the most valuable rewards, there are other Avatars in the game that I didn't show but they're not really worth fighting in my opinion. You would still use the same strategy on them as I do with these ones anyway.
I decided to include fire pots in my strategy because there really is no excuse to not use them, especially on a low level character. They do so much damage, and their ingredients are extremely fast and easy to farm in huge quantities even right from the beginning of the game. There are 6 cracked pots you can get in Limgrave without fighting anything at all, and if you chose the cracked pots as your keepsake item, you will have 9 in total before leaving Limgrave or even entering Stormveil Castle. I do show off how to farm the ingredients in the second part of this video, along with some other useful items.
Something to consider: if you are a challenge runner, you can use the Opaline Bubbletear to guarantee you survive at least 1 attack from a boss so you can continue fighting. This is what you would want to do in the early game, but by the time you are in Caelid and walk by the Putrid Avatar that drops the Opaline Hardtear, you could use that instead of the bubbletear and paired with the Ritual Shield talisman, you can take a huge variety of single physical hits from a huge amount of bosses and survive them until the buff wears out instead of it being just a one time protection. The Opaline Hardtear, the Ritual Shield Talisman, and a Boiled Crab all together make even a level 1 very tanky.
