An octal number system is a base 8 number system as it uses 8 digits from 0 to 7.

This video explains the conversion of an octal number to decimal and also the conversion of a decimal number to octal.

The conversion of numbers with fractional part is also explained.

Octal to decimal conversion : Multiply the octal number with place values as powers of 8.

Decimal to Octal : Successively divide the decimal number by 8 and remainders written from bottom-up is the octal value

Decimal fraction to octal: Successively multiply the decimal number by 8 and write the integer part of each step from top-to-bottom.
