Right now in Italy, the playoff stage is in full swing. Milan has passed Piacenza in the quarterfinals and is up against Perugia, whom they sensationally knocked out last season.
But I'd like to discuss with you the final match of the regular season, or more precisely, the showdown between Yuki Ishikawa and Wilfredo Leon. How's that for a headline?
For those new to this segment, let me briefly explain the rules. In this face-off, I compare two players of the same position using my own subjective system. And through it, we try to figure out which of the two volleyball players performed better. Since we're comparing two outside hitters today, we'll be scoring like this.
Each point in attack and block earns the player one point. For an attack error, we'll deduct one point from the personal score. For an ace, the player gets one and a half points, and for a service error, minus half a point. For a serve that significantly disrupts the opponent's combination play, an additional half point is awarded.
And since these are outside hitters, for a good reception and successful defense, the player's total score increases by 0.5. For a perfect reception, it's +1, and for a productive error, minus one.
Don't forget about clutch points, which come into play when both teams score over 20 points, and the difference in the score is no more than 3 points. In such situations, any action is valued an extra half point. Clutch points also include all points in the fifth set, if there is one.
