'Quartal' chords are harmonies built in stacks of 4ths, as opposed to the more common 'tertian' (built in 3rds) chords. You can hear these sounds in the work of pianists McCoy Tyner and Chick Corea, and guitarists Joe Diorio and Jim Hall — and many other modern jazz players as well.
