After having a double mastectomy, best-selling author and sociologist Sarah Thornton went on a journey to understand what she had lost—and gained. Her new book, Tits up, examines the social and cultural significance of breasts, through her conversations with sex workers, lactation consultants, plastic surgeons, bra designers, and activists.

Sarah Thornton is a sociologist and author of three critically acclaimed books, including the international bestseller Seven Days in the Art World. She was a scholar-in-residence at University of California, Berkeley, for three years while writing Tits up. She lives in San Francisco, California.
Dorothy Woodend is the culture editor for The Tyee, and a renowned arts and culture critic. Her writing has received numerous awards, including the Max Wyman Award for Critical Writing in 2020, as well as Silver Medal for Best Column at the Digital Publishing Awards in 2019 and 2020. Dorothy is a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Vancouver Film Critics Circle.
