In her new memoir, One Second at A Time, Diane Morrisseau shares her harrowing story of domestic abuse and how she found the strength to escape her abuser. It’s a courageous story of how an Ojibway-Anishinabe woman rescued herself and her children from a life of brutal beatings, sexual servitude, and almost unimaginable hardship
Diane will be joined by her co-author Elisabeth Brannigan and journalist Tina House to discuss this “evocative and illuminating” work.

Diane Morrisseau is a proud Anishinabe woman from Sagkeeng First Nation. She is a mother and a grandmother and is looked up to by many in the community as a respected Elder, dedicated to helping others. She began her career in Health Sciences by advocating passionately for First Nations patients. Diane worked as a counsellor for several treatment centres until her retirement in 2011. For the past thirty-five years, Diane has dedicated herself to the well-being of Anishinabe women, children, and men. She resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Elisabeth Brannigan is a mother and elementary school teacher. She holds a bachelor of arts in Indigenous studies and a bachelor of education. Elisabeth began her career teaching at Sagkeeng Mino Pimatiziwin Treatment Centre (now the Mikaaming Mino Pimatiziwin Healing Lodge) in Sagkeeng First Nation. Elisabeth lives with her husband and children in Toronto, Ontario.
Tina House has been a full-time Video Journalist with APTN National News in the BC bureau since July 2007. A proud Métis born in Vancouver, in 2010 she received the Amnesty International - Human Rights Journalism Award for Canada for her work on a half hour APTN Investigates story on 'Missing Women. In 2022, Ms. House was bestowed the Canadian Screen Award for Best National Reporter. She is the first Indigenous Journalist to ever receive this honour.
