BEAUMONT - Family and friends remembered Judge Lupe Flores.
Southeast Texans gathered at Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica on Sunday to honor and remember Judge Flores.
Judge Flores was the first Hispanic American to serve in the Jefferson County District Attorney's office.
He was also the first Hispanic American to serve as a Beaumont city judge and the first Hispanic American elected to a county judge position.
His friends say not only was he a ground breaker in the community, he was a good man who always helped others.
"In my position, I have a lot of department heads and elective officials that normally when they come to see me they are coming to ask for something and with Lupe the only thing he ever asked was how he could help," said Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick. "He was the kind of guy that pitched in and wanted to do what was best."
