A Buna family loses everything in house fire started by toaster
A Buna family will now have to rebuild their lives after a house fire Wednesday morning.
A fire broke out at about 11:30 in the morning at a home on County Road 749 in Buna.
Sharron McMahon lived in the home with her adult son. She's a longtime employee of Buna ISD.
"I was getting ready to go on my lunch break when my son called,” McMahon said. “My son is a special needs high-level adult, and he was making him a piece of toast in the toaster."
Her son told her a piece of toast was stuck in the toaster, and it was beginning to burn. McMahon said she told him to unplug the toaster and get out of the house. She rushed home, and by the time she arrived the kitchen was on fire, and it quickly spread.
The community is showing overwhelming support.
