BISD Superintendent responds to concerns about convocation costs
Beaumont ISD superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen is addressing concerns about the district's convocation speaker, Eric Thomas, and hoping to clarify details about the costs.
According to Allen, only $25,000 has been spent on Thomas.
An invoice shared with KFDM/Fox 4 shows an additional $48,000 in payment toward Thomas, but according to the superintendent, the money is for a program and hasn't been spent.
"The information that they saw was information related to a program that we are wanting to implement, that we want to implement at Beaumont United High School. So, the information is totally out of context. We did not spend that type of money on a motivational speaker," says Allen.
We questioned both the superintendent and BISD board president Tillie Hickman on transparency regarding district expenditures and how they feel on lowering the threshold of $50,000.
