Running in the 1932 Olympic Games in LA Hampson became Great Britain's fourth straight 800 metre Champion,but went one better than Hill and Lowe before him by taking the gold in a new world record .In doing so he ran the first ever sub 1.50 time for the distance.Sympathy for second placed Alex Wilson of Canada who also went under the old WR,but had to make do with the silver.The two previous WR holders Sera Martin and Otto Peltzer,trailed in 8th and 9th,respectively.
