The steps on How to create proxies in Adobe Premiere to edit 4K footage are listed below for those of you not able to play the audio out loud so you're welcome 👊😉👍
I was definitely having problems editing my 4k and 6K footage in Premiere mainly because it was all RED footage and my desktop was tied up with motion graphics and was left with my Macbook Pro which is what prompted me to learned how to create proxy files in Premiere Pro.
One of the first things that is extremely crucial is to first properly configure your project by enabling Proxies under the Media menu in your preferences and adding the "Proxy Column" via the Metadata display options so you can keep up with the video clips that have attached proxies, offline proxies or no proxies.
Although I did not cover it on the video, you can also add the Proxy toggle icon to your Source or Preview windows
Next, shift+select the clips you'd like to create proxies for, right click and scroll down to "Proxy" and select "Create Proxies".
On the pop-up, rather than choosing "Next to original media" I recommend creating a new folder where you will drop ALL the proxies for this particular project. The reason is because it will be MUCH easier to reconnect if you have to open the project in another computer.
Once you hit "OK", Adobe Media Encoder will automatically open and begin creating your proxies. When you hear the chime you'll know that all your proxies are done.
