Zelda is one of the major franchises I haven't had any interaction with yet, but that changes today! I'll be diving into the Skyward Sword remaster, and I thought it would be fun to arrange a track from the game before doing so!
As I'm not familiar at all with this game's soundtrack (or Zelda in general), this was recommended to me by my friend Patti, and it worked out really well for percussion ensemble! I tried to capture the ambience and the sense of space of the original through the use of marimba rolls and bowed vibraphone, while melodic, metallic percussion carried the various melodies. Mixing it was a bit of a challenge, but I'm really pleased with how this came out!
If you're interested, the full instrumentation for this track is: chimes, crotales, glockenspiel, vibes x3 (one of which was bowed), marimba x2 (one of which rolled notes in the bass registers).
Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, this track cannot be released on streaming platforms, but I hope you enjoy it here on YouTube! More to come~
