A hack 'n slash SNK fighter with many similarities to the classic Samurai Shodown series. This game never lived up to the popularity of other classic SNK fighting titles, like Fatal Fury or The King of Fighters. Which is too bad, because its one of the best fighting games we've played, and its likely this game never got the full credit it deserved.

Regardless of the characters you chose to fight with, the game featured two modes of play, power mode, and speed mode. The speed mode give you faster fighting abilities, including the advantage of using long chain combos; while the Power mode gives you more strength and the ability to cause more damage for a single hit, and does more damage even when enemies are blocking incoming hits.

As was typical with most fighting games, The Last Blade also featured a super meter, which when full allows players to unleash desperation, or super desperation moves.

Playing in speed mode confines you to the use of desperation moves only, and power mode users get the benefit of having super desperation moves.

The game's basic fighting maneuvers follow the same button sequences for all characters, but each characters special attacks have their own button configurations, making it a challenge to memorize each characters move list.

The game was first released to arcades by SNK in 1997. There was also ports for Neo Geo AES home console, as well as Neo Geo CD, and a Sony Playstation port.
