Frankly, this Python 2/3 ping utility implementation doesn't strike me as something standing out by any means.

The reason I made a video of it is simply because it has history, from LICENSE:

"The original code derived from ping.c distributed in Linux's netkit.
That code is copyright (c) 1989 by The Regents of the University of California.
That code is in turn derived from code written by Mike Muuss of the US Army Ballistic Research Laboratory in December, 1983 and placed in the public domain. They have my thanks."

The precursor of this Python script, when it all started in December, 1997, it is the descendant of a C code in 1989 and it seems go further back to as early as 1983. That was way over three decades.

In the recording, I purposely made a simple comparison to the ping of iputils (20121221). You could easily tell there is different in the output, such as number format, packet counts, etc.

I hope someone happens to be interested in ICMP and ping would head over and make some changes to python3-ping.
