Do Energy Drinks Cause Spikes in Blood Sugar Levels? Energy Drinks including diet have been known to increase blood sugar levels. There are several different reasons as to why. For one, energy drinks including diet contain ingredients that can lead to insulin resistance down the line. Insulin resistance means that the body is unable to use it's own insulin production in the correct way. As a result, the body produces more and more insulin trying to achieve the same outcome. Over time, this can lead to prediabete and diabetes.
Energy drinks also tend to have a lot of carb content. This means that they have a lot of sugar in them. After having an energy drink, your blood sugar levels will spike. Chronically doing this, will cause higher a1c levels and or can lead to diabetes if you are not a diabetic.
You want to be aware of what you are consuming. Be sure to read nutrition labels correctly. Limit your intake of energy drinks including diet and regular energy drinks. Some of the popular energy drinks include: Redbull, Monster and Celsius.
