PLEASE READ THIS!
Why do you listen to music? Is it because you like it, or is it because it's what you are supposed to do after you buy all of the pretty gear you have?
Is your goal to maximize enjoyment, or is it to build a system that's precise?
I know that what I'm saying in this video will be misinterpreted by a lot of guys because they are thinking in terms like this:
objectively great performance must sound subjectively great
I invested a lot of time and money to research, build and test the listening room I have with the goal of having a high resolution and high accuracy system. I also designed and built most of the equipment that produces the sound for the room, again with accuracy and precision as the primary goal.
And it worked! The system sounds awesome and is by-the-numbers accurate to reproduce the source material faithfully.
But what does that mean when my hearing is damaged? What does that mean when the equipment that receives the sound (my ears) is NOT accurate?
Hearing aids can help restore my hearing to get it close to what it should be, but there's another way: "tune" the system to match my hearing.
That involves throwing away the accuracy of the system so that I'll be able to hear it normally.
In other words, the emphasis is on getting the best subjective sound quality REGARDLESS of the accuracy
Just like the example I show in the video, you manipulate the medium to get the most pleasing result because THAT'S WHAT COUNTS!
Take cooking as another example. Do you eat something based on the accuracy of the recipe, or because it tastes great to you? Even if a dish is prepared in a precise way and indistinguishable from the original, you may not like how it tastes!
