After wrapping up a whirlwind 3 days exploring Tokyo, our next mission was conquering the nearly 1000km trek to Sapporo on Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, without breaking the bank. Opting for an off-the-beaten-path adventure, we set sail on an 18-hour overnight ferry across the North Pacific Ocean. Snagged the cheapest ticket available, which meant bunking down in a shared room on futons – a cosy budget-friendly option.
