The Lakes Of Cherrybrook - Urban Protists and Microfauna

As part of my explorations, a favourite theme is urban freshwater artificial ponds. This presentation focuses on a local set of tiered ponds close to home. Fed by stormwater runoff, they have been designed to act as a natural cleaning system prior to running down the hill into the main river.
There are numerous new housing developments that incorporate splendid pond systems to deal with runoff and are home to a rich diversity of creatures.
Of course these systems don’t do magic alone, it’s at the microscopic level that we see the true heros at work, filtering and cleaning the water.
This particular pond system is well established and home to a huge and growing list of creatures.
Here are just some of those creatures living under an old willow tree.
