Water breaking late in pregnancy is a very normal thing because whenever a delivery patient comes so many times with broken water, we deliver the baby that is not a problem because the baby is mature and fit for delivery but if it is happening in early pregnancy then it is a problem. If the water breaks it is very difficult to hold to the pregnancy because the baby is like a fish swimming in water. What we can do is we try to hold the pregnancy and try to make her develop water and this is a very tough task and always not possible. So whenever possible we try to maintain it conservatively. So what we tell is if the baby is very premature we cannot just deliver because very premature babies cannot survive. Nowadays also because of the high development of the NICUs in the hospitals we are able to sustain and develop premature babies. So this is possible these days . So we try to give them bed rest and try to give them medications to develop water again. When the water is broken the baby is exposed to external environment. So it is easily infected and to prevent that infection w e give antibiotics when we see the water ha s broken and we try to salvage the baby to what extent possible and if it attains the size as much as possible, we try to deliver and hand it over in such a way to the neonatologists so that they give us a live and a healthy baby.
