Can You Race a Drift Car? Taking My 350z to a Race Even for the First Time
This week I took my drift car to a race event to see how it would do! The car is a 2007 Nissan 350z and all of my suspension and drivetrain upgrades have been focused on drifting. While some of the parts like coilovers might be the same between a drift and grip car, the suspension tuning tends to be very different. With that in mind, I wasn't exactly setting myself up for success lol.
None the less, I went to my local Autocross event to see how my car stacked up. While I was able to improve my times through the day, the car really struggled for grip and the welded differential and twitchy steering from the angle kit made this especially sketchy. Then I decided to do a more straight drift lap towards the end of the day and effectively got banned from my local AutoX, which in the end was probably the most fun part of the event.

In 2022 after learning to drift on Assetto Corsa, I purchased a 2007 Nissan 350z to start attending my first drift events, and I've learned quite a bit along the way. The community has been great and I'd very much like to pay it forward and help anyone looking else looking to get into drifting for the first time.
