Storm Front Ice Fishing Walleye in Northern Alberta using flutter spoons and dead minnows.
I was looking through my old hard drives and found this footage. I likely did not edit it because looks like I missed most of the action and the wind was really whipping destroying the GoPro Sound quality which it suboptimal at the best of times. After watching the footage again though it was reminiscent of a good time out fishing in some really terrible weather. Always good to remember that it isn't always pretty conditions when we are out there. So here is the good, the bad and the ugly. The 5 of us still managed our limit of nice sized walleye.
I'm sure there will be comments about the fish handling and totally agree, not great to handle fish with leather or other types of gloves.
It was a huge change in weather from the day prior. We hit the lake at 8 am in the dark. Snowing and blowing and temp was -6C at first then dropped through the day. When we left the ice at 1:30 pm the temp was falling to -14 and wind really whipping. Too miserable, couldn't even hear each other talk. Barometer was also falling steeply and we weren't sure what to expect. Tried to find some new structure but couldn't locate. Moved and it was small pike after small pike. Meanwhile Uncle Johnny tried spot three and called us up in no time with Walleye news! So we packed up and headed over.
Perforated the area and got on them. Slow but steady. Must have caught almost 20 in the middle of the day. Spoons worked best tipped with minnows. Great day even though we cut it short for a nice drive home in the daylight. Brother caught a pike and noticed a jig in its mouth as well. Removed both hooks and released for another day.
Hope you enjoy this blustery fishing video.
