Sockeye Salmon Run in the Straight of Georgia. These fish are headed to the Fraser River. They school up in the Straight waiting to go up River. They become accustomed to the fresh water and when temperatures optimal they head up River. While they are waiting in the Straight they often jump, flopping awkwardly several times in a row. I don't know why they jump. Some people say to get rid of parasites. Maybe escaping predators or other annoying fish. Maybe just checking out the weather and the view.
What do you think is the reason they Jump?
