Most places north of I-10 were able to see more sunshine today, so it was also a lot warmer. This evening and tonight, we will see partly cloudy skies and a small chance for a coastal shower. Isolated showers and a few storms are possible Monday as a surface trough sits over the area and a boundary lingers offshore, but most places north of I-10 should remain mostly dry. Highs will sit in the mid- to upper-80’s with low-80’s along the coast. Rip current risk will be moderate through Tuesday then high by Wednesday. As the week progresses, rain chances will increase as tropical moisture streams into the area. The best chances for showers and storms are on Wednesday and Thursday. The higher rain chances will keep temperatures cooler in the low- to mid-80’s for most of the work week. By next weekend, we will see lower rain chances and temperatures in the upper-80’s. In the tropics, we are tracking Potential Tropical Cyclone Six and two other areas. PTC Six is moving northwest at 5 mph and has 50 mph winds. The current model guidance keeps this system in the westernmost portions of the Gulf tracking it towards TX/LA. Tropical moisture will be drawn into the News 5 area bringing higher rain chances for Wednesday and Thursday. The next name is Francine. Two more areas are in the central and eastern Atlantic and do not pose a threat to the News 5 area. The area in the central Atlantic has a high chance of formation over the next seven days, and the area in the eastern Atlantic also has a medium chance of development.

The WKRG News 5 First Alert Storm Team covers part of southeast Mississippi, southwestern Alabama, and northwest Florida. You can also view the full Sunday evening forecast for the Gulf Coast here: https://tinyurl.com/5dp9smer
