Part of the Great Commandment is to love the Lord with all our mind. Our culture today is battling for the mind, and as believers, we must engage in the battle with solid principles from God’s Word.
Goals in guarding your mind:
1. Deepen your walk from a “moment in time” conversion to a “moment by moment” conviction.
Colossians 2:6-7
Necessities:
A. Rooted – maturing in your faith.
B. Strengthened – being nourished in your faith.
C. Thanksgiving – living with the right attitude in your faith
2. Protect uncompromisingly your freedom in Christ! Colossians 2:8
False teachings encountered:
A. Secular Humanism
Greek philosopher Protagoras said, "Man is the measure of all things."
Man is the ultimate standard by which all life is measured. God is dismissed or greatly minimized.
B. Relativism
Religious knowledge is merely relative, not absolute.
Foundational Fallacy: It makes an absolute statement about religion that says one can't make
any absolute statements about religion.
C. Pluralism
Multiple religions or secular worldviews are all legitimate and valid.
Sincerity establishes validity (“Ends”also can be used)
Each one is "true" when viewed from within its own culture.
D. Materialism
Intense preoccupation for possessions/ money for self- gratification
Life passion to pursue the “good life” above your pursuit of God.
Materialist’s mantra, “If only I had a little more.”
False Teaching’s outcomes:
A. It’s enslaving not freeing v. 8
B. It’s empty not fulfilling v. 8
C. It’s human (satanic) not divine v. 8
D. It’s temporal not eternal v.8
