In this video, I explore the challenges of stopping binge eating through popular methods like intermittent fasting, reducing processed foods, and calorie counting. Many people claim success with these approaches, but if you're like me, you might find that these strategies often backfire, intensifying the struggle rather than alleviating it.
Intermittent fasting can be appealing to binge eaters because it limits eating windows, theoretically reducing opportunities to binge. However, I found that it led to a scarcity mindset, increasing the urge to overeat as the fasting window approached. My satiety signals became dulled, leaving me full but unsatisfied, a common experience for many binge eaters.
When it comes to processed foods, the conventional wisdom suggests that cutting them out or reducing them could curb binge eating. While that might work for some, I discovered that for me, restricting certain foods only intensified my cravings. Instead, I found success in focusing on adding more nourishing, whole foods to my diet without rigidly eliminating processed options. This approach helped me reduce my dependence on convenience foods more easily.
Calorie counting is another common tool people use to manage their eating, but for those prone to binge eating, it can become a double-edged sword. The focus on numbers and restrictions often triggers a psychological rebellion, worsening binge cycles. Additionally, my fluctuating appetite made sticking to a consistent calorie limit impractical and counterproductive.
Ultimately, I advocate for a gentle, intentional approach to eating that prioritizes listening to your body's needs over rigid rules. If you're interested in a more personalized, adaptable method like intuitive eating, I’m planning a course tailored to help you make it work for you.
