Here's a commercial for STP Oil Treatment, spotlighting the possibilities of those whose cars are tuned up with this product, from people at a drive-in restaurant to an elderly couple at a picnic near a brook, a newspaper delivery man in a pickup delivering the day's newspaper, and other examples of everyday life.

Two future later 1970's TV stars (and, as some would say, young men's fancies) appear in this ad - Jan Smithers (of WKRP in Cincinnati fame) as the girl in the car at the beginning, and (at 0:14 and again at 0:17) a pre-Three's Company Suzanne Somers as the blonde running "freely" in the STP t-shirt.

Ends with the slogan, "It helps your oil do a better job."

This aired on local Boston TV on Monday, September 8th 1975 during the 8:00pm to 9:00pm (Eastern) timeframe.

This footage was donated to The Museum of Classic Chicago Television as part of The Steve Albert Collection.

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: [email protected] Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail [email protected] Thank you for your help!
