Got a client with pain that travels down the side of their leg, often associated with outer knee pain? Here are some tips for working with the IT band.

When working with the IT band, realize that the band itself is made of thick fascia, and you'd need a scalpel to "release" it. If the ITB is tight, then the muscles that pull on it are likely the cause. That means working with tensor fasciae latae and gluteus medius, getting them to loosen their death grip.

Does that means ignoring the lateral leg? No; you want your client to know that you've heard their concerns, and smoothing out vastus lateralus may help with the pain. Work with the entire area: Think locally, and act globally. Work from origin to insertion and beyond!

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. I'd love to hear your ideas for future videos!
