This is a summer 2001 with a 500MHz PowerPC G3 processor, 64 MB of RAM, and a 20 GB hard drive.

This specific model was the mid-range iMac at the time, with its in-the-middle price and specs.
UPDATE: 4/27/19 – After some further review, I realize that this is in fact the low-end iMac G3, which was apparently a configuration added later on, which featured a 500 MHz G3, 64 MB of RAM, and was only in Indigo. Therefore, I made an error at the 4:00 mark when I said that the previous owner removed a RAM module, since this computer only ever had 64 MB of RAM.

This was the latest and the greatest version of the G3 powered iMacs, introduced in summer 2001 alongside the Power Mac G4 QuickSilver. Apple returned to a more low-key color scheme for this generation, with Indigo, Graphite, and Snow being the only options. Looking at the hardware released in 2001, it's pretty clear this year was a transition year away from the bright, candy-colored plastics that defined their product line from 1997-2000 and on to softer grey/silver plastics, brushed aluminum, and Titanium.

It is crazy to think that it was only three years earlier that the original iMacs debuted, and it very quickly became a hit and were soon everywhere (including on my parent's desk AND our next-door neighbor's desk!). Another interesting thing is that the version of iMac that I have continued production long after the iMac G4 was introduced. In fact, the iMac G3 was officially discontinued in March 2003.

I was surprised at how smooth the graphics were while I was trying to comprehend Bugdom in the video. It shipped with ATI Rage 128 graphics, which, at the time, was like having the equivalent iMac 4K of today.

Price when new: $799 (500 MHz G3, Indigo, 20 GB HDD, 64MB RAM, CD-ROM drive)
"The new iMac. With speeds of up to 700 MHz, a slot-loading CD-RW drive and awesome software to make movies, rip MP3s, burn CD's, and get online faster than ever."
