Hiking the Eagle Creek trail to Tunnel Falls in November 2021! The trail has been closed since the 2017 Eagle Creek wildfire, and it just opened earlier this year. I was really excited to be able to explore it.
The trail follows a stunning canyon filled with waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. There are so many waterfalls that they can't really be counted. The wildfire damage to the forest is very evident on the trail, but with so much water around, the moss and understory are coming back well.
The hike becomes very narrow in sections and follows the cliffside closely. There are cables to hold onto in these sections. I found it to be a bit scary!
The section we did is just over 6 miles each way, for a total of 12 - 12.5 miles. It's a very gradual uphill on the way out and a gradual downhill on the way back, so it's a pretty fast 12 miles.
