Join us at the Malahat Skywalk, a weird and wonderful tower that offers stunning views over the Salish Sea. It's one of the best Vancouver Island viewpoints. After walking up a giant spiral tower, you can descend the tower on a slide!

In today’s video, I’ll share more about the Malahat Skywalk and tips for your visit.

The Malahat Skywalk is on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, about 30 minutes’ drive from Victoria. You can either drive there or take a free Malahat Skywalk shuttle from downtown Victoria.

Leading up to the spiral tower, you’ll start out on an elevated boardwalk called the Tree Walk. It travels through a forest dominated by Douglas fir and Pacific Madrone trees. This is a warm microclimate on the eastern side of Vancouver Island—it’s even warm enough for lemons to grow in this region!

Along the Tree Walk, you’ll find driftwood animal sculptures made by local artist Tanya Bub.

Our Little Explorer will not stay in a stroller, but the walk is stroller- and wheelchair-accessible. It’s 1.4 miles roundtrip.

There are lots of activities set up along the way to keep kids engaged, including a playground and Luke’s Lane, an alternate trail route back to the welcome center that has scavenger hunt activities along the way.

At the base of the tower, you’ll find stands selling food and ice cream.

The Malahat Skywalk tower is 10 stories tall, but the spiral walkway makes it a very gradual rise, so it’s not difficult to climb. There are some great views along the way.

From the walkway, you can look up and see the “Adventure Net,” a giant mesh net at the top of the tower. The net is fun to walk on and look down (if you’re not afraid of heights!).

The top of the tower also has a boardwalk for those of us who prefer more solid footing, and it offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape.

The slide spirals down the center of the tower and definitely makes an exciting exit! You can ride the slide as many times as you’d like. Children under 5 aren’t allowed to ride the slide, but there is a small playground slide at the base that’s open to everyone.
