Half Life Alyx with hand tracking is a NIGHTMARE! The Quest 3 can now allow players to experience PC VR hand tracking in a whole host of VR games thanks to a new beta branch update for both Steam VR and the Quest Steam Link app, with both of these updates you can experience the sheer horror of Half Life Alyx hand tracking and if you're anything like me you'll never want to be without your controllers ever again! VR hand tracking is a weird thing, one the one hand (heh) it's so cool to see your real, physical hands represented in a game like Half Life Alyx. You can swear at enemies, physically grab items, shoot and move all without controllers and most actions feel like genuine magic. On the other hand it's almost impossible to do anything quickly, precisely or smoothly and I bet most people will spend 80% of their time fighting against their hands not quite initiating the action they wanted them to do... It's simultaneously the coolest and worst way to experience a VR game!
This Half Life Alyx hand tracking gameplay was captured using a Quest 3 via Steam link on a 4090 VR ready PC, if you'd like to try this at home make sure you opt into the beta branch of Steam VR and join the beta branch/preview channel for the Steam link app on your Quest. Then you should be able to play a whole host of PC VR games with hand tracking!
