I Played BATMAN ARKHAM SHADOW! // The Best VR Game of 2024?
I went to Gamescom and PLAYED BATMAN ARKHAM SHADOW, the new Batman Arkham game built from the ground up for VR and releasing exclusively on the Meta Quest 3... and it was FANTASTIC! I'm a huge fan of the Arkham franchise, Arkham Asylum is one of the best games ever made in my opinion, so when I heard we were getting a brand new VR Batman Arkham game I was filled with excitement... and a little bit of worry. How would developers Camouflaj convert those iconic gameplay mechanics and systems into a VR game? Was it even possible? Well, the answer is yes, Batman Arkham Shadow is a TRUE Batman Arkham game, complete with a new version of the iconic combat system, a star studded returning cast of voice actors, stealth driven sections, a lengthy single player story and some of the very best VR graphics I've seen so far on the Quest 3. Batman Arkham Shadow feels like a true triple A VR title that is setting itself up to comfortably sit alongside the flat screen Arkham games due to a high level of polish and pacing (the developers mentioned that Arkham Asylum was their main inspiration for pacing and design, so expect an Asylum style adventure rather than a City style adventure).
This Batman Arkham Shadow gameplay was provided by Meta and Camouflaj, it represents the gameplay section I played through at Gamescom but it is not my own gameplay. Batman Arkham Shadow is releasing this October exclusively for the Meta Quest 3 and I for one cannot wait, this has the potential to be VR game of the year if the story can grip and hold players for the full 8-12hr playthrough.
