The My sCool Server has built in support for both internal as well as external media based recovery images which give you the peace of mind to safeguard against unforeseen system failures. Recovery images or restore points may be created for factory restore as well as any point in time system state.
Herein are the steps about how you can restore accidentally deleted system files from a custom restore point.
Herein we shall delete a system file and demonstrate how it can be recovered from a previously created custom restore point
Directly boot into the MSS device
Open Terminal
Tip: To open terminal press Ctrl + Alt + T
-Delete the file containing all user passwords sudo rm /etc/shadow
Enter password of mssadmin when prompted
For restoration from a custom restore point become super user sudo su -
List out custom restore points created in the system using borg list /recovery/system
Choose a snapshot number that you want to restore and enter it in the next command
Execute the command to recover system from list of restore points recovery.sh restore [snapshot number] For e.g. recovery.sh restore 2
Note: Snapshot number 1 is equivalent to Factory Restore
Note: Default restoration does not restore any loaded web-content
On successful restoration, one can see the message - Restoring finished, reboot is recommended
Let us check if the deleted file has been restored ls -l /etc/shadow
