Dr. Judith S. Hochman, the Harold Snyder Family Professor of Cardiology and senior associate dean for clinical sciences at NYU Langone, discusses interim results of the ISCHEMIA-EXTEND study, which evaluates the difference in outcomes for people with chronic coronary disease and moderate or severe ischemia who are treated only with medication versus those who have coronary artery stenting or heart bypass surgery.
According to interim results based on seven years of follow-up with 5,000 patients in 38 countries, the survival rate was the same in both groups, regardless of which treatment was received. Findings were presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2022.
