Your sciatic nerve is the longest and thickest nerve in your body. When inflammation pinches it in your lower back, you’ll often feel radiating pain down into your bum and legs, sometimes as far down as your feet. This radiating nerve pain is known as sciatica.

Thankfully, it usually resolves within six to eight weeks, and corrective exercises like walking and deep passive stretching can help accelerate this healing process and prevent future flare-ups. Movement is medicine here, but it’s important to moderate your movement carefully. Here are some suggestions:

*Whether walking or exercising, aim for 4/10 discomfort (not higher)
*When stretching, go to 50% of your max range
*Err on the side of caution with 2-minute hold times
*Be honest with yourself, if it hurts skip it
