This simulation shows how the surface currents flow on a PCB with a meandered inverted F antenna. The PCB is a two-layer 1mm thick FR4 board with many tracks that cut through the ground pours and the antenna is driven with a 1GHz bandwidth gaussian pulse. The results shows that this specific layout and routing can impact the antenna's tuning causing S11 to dip at 2.55GHz instead of 2.4GHz. This simulation also shows which tracks are affected by the antenna and vice versa.
Many thanks to Lubomir Jagos for creating a plugin for FreeCAD & Blender that allows you to easily create and export scripts for openEMS! Check it out on GitHub! This is going to be a total game changer for opensource PCB design & simulation!
