Lisbon Cathedral.
Just 200 meters from the banks of the Tagus River is the Catedral Sé Patriarcal, also called Igreja de Santa Maria Maior. It is the oldest church and the main church of the city of Lisbon. At the same time, it is the cathedral of the Patriarchate, that is, of the Archbishops of Lisbon, and it is the most important sacred building in the entire country.

Construction
After the expulsion of the Moors, King Alfonso the Conqueror - he was the first king of Portugal - began the construction of the church in 1147 on the site of an Arab mosque. Thus, the place of worship became a symbol of the reconquest by the Christians.

Seen from the front (west facade), the cathedral looks like a fortress. The entrance to the church is flanked by two bell towers.
