At Ishikawa Watanabe laboratory of the university of Tokyo, vision chip was devised in 1992 and so far it has developed greatly.
The first vision chip in 1992 was implemented by gate array and it was about as large as a child. With the passage of time, the vision chip developed by Sony and our laboratory in 2017 realized both of high imaging capability and high functionality in a 1/3.2-inch small chip. It can capture 0.31M-pixel images at 1000fps and can execute spatio-temporal image processing simultaneously even though the power consumption is max 363mW.
A vision chip has provided and will provide high-speed, low-latency, low-power and small-sized visual feedback systems.
