The title basically says it all. This short tutorial will show how to get rid of broken PPAs causing 404 and "failed to fetch" errors.

There can be many reasons why you get these errors, so be sure to check that it actually is broken, or that you do not need it, before you go and delete it.

Removing a PPA is very easy in Ubuntu, and can be done directly from a GUI, as well as from the terminal. This only shows how to remove it from the GUI. However, if you need to remove it from the terminal, simply type the below commands:

sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:whatever/ppa
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa_name
sudo apt-get purge package_name
