NYC Fire Hydrant Safety
New Yorkers love to cool off in the summer by opening fire hydrants, but the city wants them to do it safely and legally by using sprinkler caps that prevent too much water from being wasted. On Academy Street in Inwood, Beth Fertig found that one community group requested a free cap from the local firehouse; but on E. 149th St. in the South Bronx, kids jumped right in after someone illegally opened a hydrant.
