Nikolai Kondratyuk - Soviet, Ukrainian chamber and opera singer (baritone), teacher, public figure. People's Artist of the USSR (1978). Academician of the International Pedagogical Academy (since 2001).
Nikolai Kondratyuk was born in 1931 in Starokonstantinov. He spent his childhood in Poltava. After graduating from a seven-year school, he studied at the Factory Training School at the Poltava Locomotive Repair Plant, worked as an installer at the construction of the Kremenchug Machine-Building Plant.
At the same time, in 1950, he graduated from the Poltava Musical College. While serving in the army, he actively participated in amateur performances, was a combat leader, soloist of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kyiv Military District (1953).
After demobilization, he entered the Kyiv State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. While studying at the conservatory in the fourth year, he was invited by choirmaster Grigory Veryovka to his Ukrainian Folk Choir. In 1958 he graduated from the conservatory, in 1957-1959 he was a soloist of the State Ukrainian Folk Choir. In 1959, after winning an international competition in Vienna, he became a soloist with the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theatre. T. Shevchenko.
In 1962-1963, Kondratyuk trained at the La Scala Theater (Milan). At the end of the internship, he was a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater for a year, sang the parts of Igor in Prince Igor by A. Borodin, Onegin in Eugene Onegin and Yeletsky in The Queen of Spades (both by P. Tchaikovsky).
In 1966-1973 he was a soloist of Ukrconcert, in 1972-1974 - of the Kyiv Philharmonic.
was the first performer of many songs by Soviet composers. The singer regularly participated in concerts, TV projects, Blue Lights and other musical programs. Kondratyuk's repertoire included more than 500 works of Russian, Ukrainian and Western European vocal lyrics.
Nikolai Kondratyuk is widely known as a chamber singer, he performed a lot with classical programs (opera arias, romances by P. Tchaikovsky, S. Rachmaninov, V. Kosenko and D. Kabalevsky, folk songs).
Kondratyuk toured many cities in the USSR and abroad (Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Finland, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, India, etc.).
For a pop artist, Kondratyuk had a very unusual texture. He was distinguished by stockiness, a powerful physique and posture, menacing and impressive voice. The singer's voice, a strong dramatic baritone with a noticeable metallic timbre and a pronounced low component, sounded menacing and impressive. Kondratyuk brought to the stage opera monumentality, academic sound and high demands on musical material.
