Dr. Marc Johnson works as a molecular virologist at the University of Missouri. His laboratory has been doing wastewater sampling for the U.S. state of Missouri, since 2020. Wastewater analysis was used to monitor COVID-19 outbreaks at various locations during the pandemic. Dr. Johnson has recently been able to detect a cryptic lineage of COVID-19, in the wastewater from Ohio. According to Dr. Johnson's extensive virology research, one particular manhole from Central Ohio, is constantly accumulating, a highly mutated, and brand new variant of SARS-CoV-2. Owing to the Nuremberg code, medical ethics, and patient privacy, attempts will not be made to identify the affected patient. However, Dr. Johnson has requested the mystery patient to get in touch with him, for facilitating meaningful biomedical research, on long COVID-19, and highly mutated, cryptic lineages. Dr. Johnson traveled extensively, before coming to the conclusion that one more sewershed, is accumulating the Ohio cryptic lineage. In other words, the mystery patient is frequently commuting between Ohio and Washington Court House, and using restrooms at both the places. Quite concerningly, highly mutated SARS-CoV-2 cryptic lineages, have been detected across the continental United States. Although patients carrying them are presumably not infectious, it is nevertheless important to study cryptic lineages, in order to be prepared for future outbreaks.
