In a great final the 21 year old,largely unknown ,Paul Ereng of Kenya,beat the defending champion Brazilian Joaquim Cruz with a perfectly timed home straight sprint.Winning bronze was,remarkably,the defending 5K champion Said Aouita of Morocco ,ahead of GB's Peter Elliott who was running after a series of pain killing injections.As the commentary says,,everyone ran too fast too early and paid the price.Apart from Ereng, of course.His light shone brilliantly but briefly,his athletic career all but over within a few seasons.
