What are multispectral outputs?

In terms of satellite data, multispectral refers to a sensor that collects different wavelengths of light that correspond to different bands or colours of light.

On SkyWatch's EarthCache there are a number of different multispectral output options available for imagery that you order.

The first example would be true colour image. Which refers to an image made out of the red, green and blue colour bands.

Similar to what this camera is capturing right now.

Other examples include a false colour composite which rearranges the bands to allow for better realization of different features.

The all optical bands output which offers everything that is available on the satellite at the time of capture and the red green blue plus near infrared output which includes those four bands.
