“As your Commander-in-Chief, I will closely work with all of you - the future leaders of our Armed Forces - in our collective public service in building a stronger and more resilient Republic,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured as he urged the graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘MADASIGON’ Class of 2023 to serve as stewards of peace and stability in the nation towards the government’s collective goal of ensuring the safety of all Filipinos.
The President made these remarks during his first attendance as Commander-in-Chief to the PMA Commencement Exercises this year, where he called on the PMA ‘MADASIGON’ Class – which stands for ‘Mandirigmang May Dangal Simbolo ng Galing at Pagbangon’ – to remain steadfast in their lifelong commitment of serving and defending the Republic.
He reminded the graduates to work for unity, respect democratic ideals, institutions and mechanisms, as well as the rule of law while diligently performing their sworn duty to the country.
“Your courage, your strength and skills have made you for and qualified for admission into the Armed Forces and for deployment into the actual theaters of operations. As you join the military ranks, continue to fuel your undying commitment to genuine love for country and public service,” he expressed.
Moreover, the President affirmed his unyielding support to the military forces by strengthening the AFP Modernization Program through military asset acquisitions and upgrades. Recently, he ordered a comprehensive study to improve social protection and signed into law the amendment to Republic Act (RA) No. 11709 that further strengthens the professionalization and merit system of the Armed Forces.
“Because of this, you now join a modern and professional organization, which is now a more effective and formidable vehicle for public service and nation building, and a continuing source of pride and self-fulfillment for the individual personnel,” President Marcos Jr. conveyed.
The PMA ‘MADASIGON’ Class of 2023 is comprised of 310 cadets, now 2nd Lieutenants, who will be deployed under the three branches of service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Out of the 310, 158 joined the Philippine Army (PA), 77 in the Philippine Navy (PN) and 75 in the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
Cadet 1CL Warren Leonor, who hails from Lipa City in Batangas, emerged as valedictorian of the graduating class.
