Intrauterine growth restriction means low birth weight of the baby, i.e. intrauterine growth restriction. Generally there are two types of Intrauterine growth restriction 1) Asymmetrical 2) Symmetrical. Asymmetrical IUGR: The baby's head and brain are the expected size, but the rest of the baby's body is small. 2)Symmetrical IUGR : All parts of the baby's body are equally small in size. Usually if the birth weight of the baby is less than 10 centile, if you see your scans you will see the weight of the baby beside that which is written like that centiles you always observe it, if it is less than 10 it is an abnormal weight of the baby in uterus.
