ISRO’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 is on track as the spacecraft inches closer to the Moon. Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission marked a significant milestone on Aug 20 with the successful execution of its second and final de-boosting operation. The module manoeuvred itself into an orbit with the closest approach to the Moon at 25 km x 134 km. This orbit sets the stage for a soft landing attempt in the uncharted south-polar region of the Moon. If this mission is conducted successfully, India will become the first country to reach the south pole of the Moon. On July 14, the nation witnessed the historic lift-off of the Chandrayaan-3 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
