California is the most powerful state because of these changes. From railroads, oil, and what the Great Depression and WWII created, California became the center of the military-industrial complex and the Golden Age of capitalism. Her population overtook New York, and Hollywood maintained cultural supremacy. It had bumps, along with many to come, but the political conflagrations were could always be juxtaposed by how powerful California had become.
