San Luis Obispo, or SLO for short, is a small city near and dear to my heart, not only because it's one of my hometowns, but because I've done so much work on the history here. After all, my dissertation has a chapter on it and my entire masters thesis is about the place. And it goes much deeper than that, for my father was a museum director here. You could say SLO's history is in my veins. So I've got a question to ask from all this: what makes something historic? It's it simply that it's old? Does it have a good story behind it? Is it important to promoting the area? Or is it something deeper? Well I'm here to argue that it's none of that.
