Track matte function is an essential part of compositing effects in any software. In this #Adobe #AfterEffects #tutorial you will learn how to use alpha matte and luma matte as well as the inverted versions of the same effect. Alpha matte looks at the transparency of the layer above and cut's out the transparent parts. Alpha matte only gets effected when the opacity of the top layer is changed. Another option is the luma matte which looks only at color values - the darker the color, the more it will lower the transparency of the layer below. This is useful to beginners as well as pro users since this function can be applied to a wide variety of scenarios from very simple to very complex. However this is a beginner tutorial so I targeted this video for beginner users just to show the basic functionality. You can also achieve this effect in Premiere Pro, however it's not that easy or intuitive so I would rather make this in after effects just by clicking a few buttons. I use this effect basically every day since it's useful in a wide variety of scenarios especially when it comes to animation or even some greenscreen effects.
